While Christ rules over all the earth, in this age his redemptive rule is only made visible in the church. He has endowed his church with spiritual power that is distinct from the power given to the state over the civil sphere. Church power is exercised ministerially on the basis of what Christ has revealed in his Word. Our form of church government is Presbyterian, which means it is governed by elders, whose primary responsibility is to keep watch over the doctrine, discipleship, and worship of Christ's people. We also have deacons, who are called to minister to the physical and financial needs of the congregation and see to the care of church property.
